Fracture
Fracture

Manufacturer: Lucas Arts Entertainment
Fracture advances players to the year 2161, where the effects of global warming have altered the planet's landscape, and a clash in ideologies over human enhancement places society on the threshold of war. In utilizing the core gameplay mechanic of Fracture, a destructive next-generation technology known as Terrain Deformation, players are equipped with an arsenal of futuristic weaponry to strategically reshape their surroundings on the fly. Every action they perform dynamically reshapes the earth in ways no videogame has ever seen. Players set foot on the frontlines of this epic conflict in the role of Jet Brody, a demolitions expert fighting for the Atlantic Alliance, who rely upon cybernetic enhancement. Pitted against the genetically enhanced soldiers of the Pacifican army, players will experience a revolution in 22nd-century warfare. When Brody throws a tectonic grenade onto a level battlefield, the ground blasts upward providing access to otherwise unreachable areas or providing cover against approaching enemies. Surrounded on all sides by Pacifican forces, Brody heaves a vortex grenade, creating a swirling tornado-like mass of boulder, dirt and debris to dispatch his foes. These are just a few samples of the possibilities for Terrain Deformation. Players not only change the battlefield - they change the face of the battle itself. Reshape the battlefield with terrain shattering weapons: Experience a dynamic battlefield that is unique every time you play. Use never-before-seen weapons to fracture, crater, freeze, or elevate the earth. Unleash a subterranean torpedo toward your enemy and literally blast the earth from beneath his feet. For the first time, players can mold a war zone for an advantage to push the attack or mount a defense. Experience a story of betrayal and revenge: Follow the journey of a patriotic Atlantic Alliance soldier when an act of treason launches him into the lethal battlefield of the 22nd century, as forces wage a battle of genetics vs. cybernetics. In a war that divides loyalties and tests the bonds of country and family, this soldier's discoveries will ultimately decide the fate of North America and perhaps the world. Multi-player & co-operative play allows the terrain deforming battles to rage on: Choose the side of the genetically enhanced Pacificans or the cybernetically powerful Atlantic Alliance, then jump online and exploit your chosen sides advantages as Terrain Deformation and Genetic vs. Cybernetic elements allow for endless hours of fun with friends online. Fight for control of familiar locations and landmarks: The last World Wars were fought in Europe, but the next great global war will be fought on American soil. Battle in famous locations across the United States. Defend the Atlantic Alliance in Washington, DC, fight the decisive battle for control of Pacifica in the basin of the now-empty San Francisco bay and uncover the secret that will determine the world's fate in the Southwest Desert.

Could have been better
This game has overall great graphics and OK story. The problem of this game is the experience of the gameplay: when you shoot the enemies you have to shoot like a 100 shots so you can hit them because the shots go everywhere but where they need to go. I mis-spent my money on this...

Meh
This game isn't bad, but it's not all that good either. Especially stacked up against other Third Person Shooters. The main problem is the way they throw enemies at you. A lot of TPS suffer from this problem. Where the developers deem it a good idea to just flood you with a ton of enemies. Enemies which aren't even that smart. Use the entrencher to raise some cover, then just peer out and take out a few. Go back down behind cover to recharge shields, then rinse and repeat. Using teh entrencher to bring back up your cover if the enemies manage to throw a granade to lower it.
It's tedious more than it is fun. Now this wouldn't be a problem if you could switch it up properly. However, the enemies are accurate. Even if they sit in the same spots while you sit there doing nothing behind some ground cover. [literally] So you can't charge in. There are few instances where you're allowed to do this because of all the enemies that they toss in at you.
Here's the campaign in a nutshell;
Fight enemies in large room
Go down narrow passage
Come out into a large room where you fight more enemies
Solve Puzzle or Kill Boss
Repeat. That's pretty much it with the exception of near the end where you actually get some close quarter action, which is too little too late.
Controls work fine. You fire often gets blocked by trees, rocks, whatever you're standing behind though. Which is frustrating.
The final boss was very, VERY disappointing. He was, without spoiling anything, simply a recolor of a previous enemy type you fought multiple times before. Story is pretty meh. The main character isn't interesting. The online is pretty much dead, with good reason. I managed to get into a match earlier this year and it was not fun.
This is a short lived experience and not that great of one. It's an average game through and through. Worth getting only if the price is right.

Son loves the game!
This game has been a lot of fun for the boys. They love the excitement of the game & want to play it as often as they can.

Better than I expected
I was sooo skeptical about playing this game but since I got it for 10 bucks what the hell I gave it a try thinking it was going to be bad. But I found a pleasant surprise. It is not the best game I have played but it is a cool game that satisfies what I look for when playing games: to have fun, and this game does it very well. And for people who think this is a hard game, you guys need some serious training, old school training.

Man, it had potential...
First off, let me just say that I was super phsyced for this game for christmas, so this review may be harsher than others.
I loved the terrain deformation/second civil war premise of this game, but when I put it in my PS3, I didn't like it. Other people may love this game, but for some reason, I didn't like how it was delivered. I can't really place it, or say it better than that. So, maybe consider getting the demo on PSN before buying it.
